Maggie’s sophomore album Neutral Ground is a tribute to her transition from her hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana to New Orleans and its beautiful and bittersweet effects. The album is drenched in the hybrid of soul, alt pop and rock ‘n’ roll that Maggie has become known for. Her song “Hey Na Na,” performed by Galactic, is a song she co-wrote with The Revivalists’ lead singer David Shaw and is currently the theme song for this season’s Top Chef: New Orleans. It's not uncommon to find Maggie performing on stage with a list of other iconic acts that has included Widespread Panic, Gov't Mule and Charles Bradley, to name a few.

Minneapolis is known for many things — pretty lakes, the Mall of America, lutefisk. But 17 years ago, hip-hop act ATMOSPHERE transformed the city into something else entirely: a nexus from which underground rap spiraled-out to the masses. And thanks to the duo’s indefatigable touring habits, Top 20-charting albums, and their galvanizing artist-owned label Rhymesayers (MF Doom, Aesop Rock), they’re still pushing the boundaries of what indie rap can mean.

DICK DALE / Endless Pools / The Howleez

$30 adv
GUITAR LEGEND DICK DALE most famous for his 1963 song "Misorlou", the theme song to PULP FICTION, and recently sampled by BLACK EYED PEAS (now several times platinum). Dick Dale wasn't nicknamed "King of the Surf Guitar" for nothing: he pretty much invented the style single-handedly, and no matter who copied or expanded upon his blueprint, he remained the fieriest, most technically gifted musician the genre ever produced. The breakneck speed of his single-note staccato picking technique was unrivalled until it entered the repertoires of metal virtuosos like Eddie Van Halen, and his wild showmanship made an enormous impression on the young Jimi Hendrix. But those aren't the only reasons Dale was once called the father of heavy metal.
